I found this post on Jezebel about what men and women look at when they watch porn and how it might not really be what you expect. It was an interesting post, for sure. However, what ended up being more interesting to me were the comments. There are apparently a lot of people who think that there is no porn out there for them. The comments consisted of people complaining about the ugly men, fake breasted women with too much makeup, and how lesbian porn especially is just the absolute worst. Then they went on and on about how they wish there was porn for them. Porn that is made for women, by women.
In response to that I have to say that these people obviously spend absolutely no time looking because these days porn made for and by women is becoming more and more prevalent and stealing more and more of the sales away from porn made by men. What’s even better is that both men and women are buying more women-made porn. A lot of people, it seems, really want to watch porn where the woman enjoys herself.
The problem is that people tend to only look at mainstream porn. To me, this is like saying that you think you’d like a burger, but no one makes burgers the way you like because you’ve only had fast food chain burgers. There are plenty of other burgers out there that are probably made exactly like you would like them, but you have to actually look for them instead of hoping they’ll come to you.
To bring this comparison entirely too far, you could also say that there is an assumption of what kind of burger a woman would want to eat, but you’d be wrong. You may think that all women want is a veggie burger because they’re all trying to watch their weight, but that just isn’t the case. Some women are going to want a juicy medium rare beef burger with a fried egg, cheddar cheese, onion strings, and bacon. Others will want a turkey burger with brie and cranberries. The point being that different women want different things. Some women are going to say that what they don’t like about mainstream porn is the degradation, but others will say that they love degradation in the bedroom, but maybe the kind they find in mainstream porn just doesn’t feel right. The good news is that women porn directors realize this because they are often working directly from their own fantasies or the fantasies of their actresses.
In the beginning there were directors like Candida Royalle who played a bit more to what the mainstream woman may want. Her films have a plot, attractive men and women, real bodies, no genital closeups, no cumshots, and you can always see the woman having an orgasm. These movies can be great for a lot of women, but not for all women.
In the newer generation of female film directors we see different types of sexuality being expressed. Kimberly Kane has a raw sexuality to her that feels dirty and hot at the same time. Madison Young brings art, intelligence, and BDSM to the table in every one of her films. Tristan Taormino brings strong female sexuality into the mainstream. Camille Crimson (link NSFW) shows that there is indeed beauty in a blowjob. Shine Louise Houston does queer porn to its fullest and blows all of those fake lesbian flicks out of the water.
There is really a lot to choose from and some of it is going to be so hot that you can’t resist touching yourself while you watch it and others are going to leave you high and dry. But that does not mean you shouldn’t search. Here are a few places you can start (all links NSFW):
- Babeland or any other sex positive feminist run sex shop is going to trudge through all the porn to bring you only the best stuff that you are more likely to enjoy.
- Good Releasing is Good Vibrations’ film production company that is churning out hot feminist porn by the minute.
- HotMoviesForHer has a ton of porn to choose from, many with reviews by women.
- The Feminist Porn Awards have featured sexy progressive movies for the past 5 years. Check out the award winners and the nominees for hot flicks where women enjoy themselves.
