Genitals In The Wild: Kauai, Hawaii Edition

While driving through Kauai, HI, I saw this genital-in-the-wild out of the corner of my eye and (of course) stopped to take a picture. The unintentional penis-and-balls monument was made even more comical by the fact that it’s situated in front of a seniors’ home. I hope the retirees giggle every time they walk past it. DIY Genital Jewelry: With Vulva Love Lovely as Inspiration

While recently browsing Etsy, my ultimate tool of procrastination, I stumbled upon Vulva Love Lovely’s Etsy shop, a store with an incredible variety of vulva and genital-themed crafts! From a Frida Kahlo Uterus Pillow to a Vulva Orchid Necklace to custom made Vulva Portraits, she has an awesome (though sort of expensive) collection of lady-part art! (Debby has a few of her vulva- and uterus-themed pieces in her sex ed collection.)

Since I’m a seriously broke college student, I decided to make my own jewelry and crafts, inspired by this artist’s work. My partner Liv and I made a trip to AC Moore in an attempt to save some money (though we ended up dropping about $50.00 on supplies) and picked up a variety of crafty items. We then proceeded to stay up until 2 am crafting! Here are the results:

Though this isn’t vulva-related, Liv also made me this awesome shirt. Continue Reading →

Genitals in the Wild: The Vulva on a Manhole Edition

Today when I was walking to class, I stumbled upon this little gem on campus. I’m not quite sure what exactly a “vulva at work” means, or what this is supposed to represent, but regardless, it’s awesome. I knew I had to post it- especially since two friends texted me this picture within the span of an hour, thinking it was blogworthy (one also thought I had put it there)! Genitals in the Wild: Havana’s Instituto Superior de Arte Edition

Recently I had the opportunity to travel under general license to Havana, Cuba. While there, I had the good fortune of visiting Havana’s Instito Superior de Arte – basically, an art institute and school. The Moon guide we had with us included an interesting description of ISA:

“The school was designed by three young “rebel” architects: Italians Roberto Gottardi and Vittorio Garatti, and Cuban Ricardo Porro. Porro’s art school was a deliberate evocation of the female form complete with fountain shaped as a mamey, or papaya—an overt reference to the female vulva. As the five main buildings emerged, they were thought too sensual, too avant-garde for grim Communist tastes. Continue Reading →

(Not Quite Genitals) In The Wild

For the past two years, I’ve been lucky enough to spend my spring break in Miami with my roommate from school. My mom and her boyfriend rent a condo down there, and we definitely reap the benefits. One night, we decided to take a lovely moon-lit walk on the beach down to the boardwalk, and stumbled upon these lovely creatures on the way. Apparently, they are called Portuguese Man O’ Wars, but if you ask me, they look like blown-up blue condoms. Seriously, check it out! Condoms? Continue Reading →

Genitals In The Wild: Phallic Lighting

A friend of mine recently turned to me and said “What do you think of the lightsabers?” I had no idea what he was talking about so he took me to see the new lighting that The University of Chicago recently put in. My first reaction was, as expected “Wow, those do look like giant lightsabers” and my second was “Why in the world did the university decide that we needed a whole bunch of really phallic looking lighting?” See more Genitals in the Wild photos. Genitals In The Wild: Vulvalicious Fruit

My boyfriend and I are quite the coffee fanatics. So this year when we went down to south to spend a week with his family, we received an adorable drink tray from his mom and dad. They found it when they were over in England, and thought that it would come in useful for transporting coffee or wine into another room. So as I’m looking at this cute, lap-sized tray – admiring the detail on it, something in the right hand corner of the tray caught my eye! Continue Reading →
