Ode to the Penis

When I was growing up, I used to have fun writing poems and limericks. Who would have guessed that one day I would write poems about genitals? Well, I did – here’s my Ode to the Penis poem that I wrote several years ago and later shared in Issue 54 (I think!) of Time Out Chicago for those of you who would like an original copy (you can order backcopies!):

Ode to the Penis by Debby Herbenick

Oh penis, how I love you so much
You’re good to look at and even better to touch.
Hard or soft, you always feel right
Whether we meet once in the morning or twice at night.
Your smell, taste and feel are all top notch
It’s no wonder men love to grab their own crotch.
Whether a penis is uncircumcised, pointed or sporting a bend,
It should be touched and kissed for hours on end.
One doesn’t have to want sex with you to appreciate your powers,
When penises can dance and make babies and even shrink in cold showers.
Sometimes I think we need a special holiday
To celebrate the penis, whether one is straight, bi or gay.

Although Ode to the Penis is not published in my Because It Feels Good book, there are many fun anecdotes about penises, vulvas and secret hip-tilt-intercourse moves and I hope you’ll check them out. Stay tuned, too, for more sex-related poems that I’ll be publishing it upcoming weeks. You can be among the first to learn about them if you follow me on Twitter @mysexprofessor .

I am really liking this sexual poem side of you. I really didn't think of you as the type of gal to sit down and write a poem about sex. I can't wait to read more poems.
