This past December, I had the immense pleasure of attending the TEDWomen meeting in Washington DC. One of the speakers was Dr. Deborah Rhodes, an internal medicine physician who partnered with physicists to create a new detection tool for breast cancer that works particularly well to find breast tumors in women with dense breast tissue. Her TED talk brought the audience – and her – to tears.
The talk was recently posted on TED.com, making information about their team’s discovery – and the politics of breast cancer research – available to everyone. You absolutely must watch this video to learn more about breast cancer, detection methods, and why this new tool may be better than mammography for some women.
