Utah Mom Tries To Sell Daughter’s Virginity For $10,000

On May 24th, ABC News reported that a Utah mother attempted to sell her teenage daughter’s virginity- for $10,000. A 32 year old mom from Salt Lake City reportedly offered to sell her 13-year-old daughter’s virginity to a man she met online. She also took the man and her daughter to a local Victoria’s Secret store, where she had her daughter model various lingerie sets for the man. The mother also sold partially nude photographs of her daughter to another man she had met online. At press time, the mother was being held at a Salt Lake City jail and is facing two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

To me, the worst part of all this is that the daughter didn’t consent. I’m all for various forms of sex work, but only when there is explicit consent, and the mother had no such thing from her daughter. I also can’t help but wonder… did she really think she was gonna get ten grand- and not get caught?

The girl is 13 and you are concerned about her giving consent? Is 13 even old enough to consider her consent valid? Her mother is trying to sell her virginity online. How hard would it be for her to coerce her daughter to consent?
I don’t think the daughter’s consent matters at all. This was wrong, period.

    I hear you.
But is 16 old enough to drive? for some yes, some no. Is 18 old enough to vote responsibly? for some yes, some no.
It’s just that law requires a specific age. There are some 13 year olds responsible enough to make that decision. I think most aren’t. Any man 18+ should not be hitting on a girl 13 years old for sex and I think having a law that says that’s illegal is a good thing. Can you imagine what some men would do if that law wasn’t in place?
