Transgender Health- Not Just Limited To Hormones and Surgeries

As most of you who follow my posts know, my parter is a female to male transgender individual. Up until recently, he has continued to see his primary care physician, who is aware of Liv’s transition, but doesn’t specify in transgender health. As Liv is taking steps towards getting top surgery, the issue of transgender healthcare has become a frequent topic of conversation. I recently came across an awesome article in Bay Windows on transgender health.

The article is definitely worth a read, but in case you’re short on time, here are some interesting stats:

  • 61 – 64% of transgender people have been physically or sexually assaulted
  • 41% of transgender people have attempted suicide
  • transgender people are more likely to abuse substances
  • 1 in 5 transgender people have experienced complete refusal of services from healthcare providers

I urge you to read the full article to learn more about the current needs of transgender people in the healthcare world!
