The Gay Community’s Newest Fave: Naya Rivera

As all my fellow Glee fans can attest to, Santana is a bad ass. Not only is she super hot, but she’s feisty, she can sing, and she’s gay- wait, what? That’s right, there’s yet another homo character on Fox’s breakout hit show. Rivera’s character recently joined several other characters in finally coming out to their peers. All it took was some smoldering glances, two hot babes, and a little Stevie Nicks (see video if you don’t know what I’m talking about). Beyond Glee, however, the 24-year-old actress has become an icon for the gay community.

Apparently the plot itself was brought on at the request of fans. According to an article in the LA Times, Glee fans “should take credit for that,” says Rivera. “Who knows if the writers would have taken that relationship so seriously if there hadn’t been such an outpouring for them to get together.”

Additionally, Rivera was asked to host the GLAAD Media Award, where she announced that “playing gay is good in every way, and…hopefully the huge increases in gay and lesbian characters will lead to more diverse and transgender-inclusive storylines.” Talk about an LGBT icon.
