Kit Yan: Spoken Word Through The Lens of an Asian-American Trans Man

I recently attended the 2011 Transgender Youth Summit in Boston, a place for “youth 24 and under from Massachusetts/New England that identify with, or could fall under, the label ‘transgender’ or youth who are in some way connected to the transgender youth community, such as partners/friends, to meet and connect with other transgender and gender variant youth” (courtesy of mtpc.org). Among the workshops and guests was Kit Yan, a transgender spoken word poet. Kit gave an amazing performance during the lunch hour, and later led a workshop on spoken word performance. I recorded a few videos from the performance, but the quality isn’t so hot, so I’ve included some of my favorite youtube videos of Kit.

You can check out more of Kit’s work at his website, www.kityanpoet.com.
