First, Cindy McCain reads some very anti-Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (DADT) lines as part of the NOH8 It Gets Better Project video, implicating the larger social and political treatment of GLBT adults in how GLBT youth are treated and how they feel growing up. THEN, she Tweets her support of DADT.
I’m over hard-line politicians’ wives being carted out to give their “…but I’m left of him” position after the fact (remember Laura Bush’s recent admissions about how she supports abortion rights and same-sex marriage? eerily reminiscent of those of her mother in law?) And yet, where were their voices when their husbands’ campaigns were running or when rights were being stripped while their husbands were in office?
Ms. McCain may not be the appropriate poster child for the NOH8 campaign but there’s something awfully symbolic about the tape over her mouth.
