Weddings: buying on or off the registry? Dilemma of the day….

I never know what to do with wedding registeries – to buy on or off the registry? On the one hand, I almost always try to buy something from the registry because then I know that it’s something that the couple hopefully wants or at least doesn’t have. On the other hand, I sometimes feel it is too impersonal. And I NEVER buy from the registry if the only things left are rocks to put in vases or individual plates, as I cannot imagine the bride and group writing a thank you card to me "for that one plate you gave us" (even though I’ve been invited to weddings where single plates are VERY, VERY expensive – as in $100 each).

So… what to do? What do YOU all do with wedding registeries? Ignore? Obsess over? Have a good laugh at all the things that they want? Or dream about what you would add to a registry of your own?

I never know what to buy off a wedding registry either, so I always try to choose gifts that I can picture them using alot. One of my girlfriends recently had a registry on myregistry.com and they had a cash gift fund on it and named it honeymoon fund. I ended up just contributing to that because I figured it would definitely be a present to remember and somehow I helped make their honeymoon vacation more special.

A honeymoon fund is a great idea! I love it. It’s always tough for me to figure out the wedding gift purchases, and that’s one way of making it easier for the guests and yet also coming up with a gift that is enjoyable for the bride and groom.
