A peak into a sex educator’s email

Fairly often, I give sex talks to community and campus groups and, occasionally, private social groups. Recently I participated in a really fun, engaging sex talk with a group and a few days later received an email thanking me for the talk. This is what followed:

Him: (message thanking us for the sex talk we gave)
Me: Thank you for inviting us! We had a lot of fun.
Him: No problem. So may I ask a personal question?
Me: Of course. Any time you guys have questions, you can email me directly or through our kinseyconfidential.org site. Fire away.
Him: OK, so I know you have a Ph.D in "sex" or what not, so I guess my question is do you actually do "hands-on" research to enhance your scholary perception on sex? I know its personal, but you said fire away!
Me: Ah – you meant "personal" about me, eh? Yeah, those questions are off-limits.  But if you guys ever have questions about your own lives, feel free to give a shout out.

Ah, the "occupational hazards" of being misunderstood as a sex educator!
