Vibrating Cock Ring for Men and Couples: The Lelo Homme “Bo”

lelo-homme-bo-vibrating-cock-ring-sex-toy-for-couplesRecently I learned of a new toy in the Lelo line of sex toys for women, men and couples: this one is actually part of their male line called “Homme” (which you may know means “man” in French). This particular toy in the Homme line is called the “Bo” and it’s interesting to me for many reasons.

For one, the instruction booklet never refers to the Bo as a sex toy. Rather, it is called a plaything which, in marketing to men, is an interesting strategy. (In the past I used to use the term “gadget” to refer to it, but it seems many men have become more comfortable with words like “sex toy” these days). Second, it is frequently referred to with male pronouns (e.g., “wash him…”). These strategies may be, in part, what is needed to help men to feel comfortable buying or using sex toys whether alone or with a partner.

The plaything toy (sorry, can’t do it; seems I’m stuck in “toy” universe) itself is interesting too. The material is easy to clean and the toy automatically turns on by sliding the top piece into the ring. Although there is only one speed, it appears to be a pleasant speed for the men and women who sampled the “playthings” that Good Vibrations sent to me. Two of the men who sampled the toys had previously used vibrating cock rings during partnered play and yet with the Bo, they said that they enjoyed its feel so much that they took to using it all on their own as part of their masturbation. In addition, one of the men reportedly asks his female partner – quite frequently -for the chance to use it together.

If you are a woman who finds it relatively easy to orgasm (from either clitoral or g spot stimulation), then during penile-vaginal intercourse you may find that the Bo makes it almost too easy to orgasm from clitoral stimulation. In other words, the clitoral stimulation may beat your body to orgasm before your g spot (front vaginal wall area) is able to deliver. Whether that ease of clitoral orgasm is a good thing or a meh thing to you is a personal preference.

As I mentioned before, the Bo can be used by men during masturbation or partner sex. During face to face partner sex between a man and a woman, the vibrating compartment may be best worn on the top of the penile shaft in order to come into contact with a woman’s clitoris. During masturbation or partner play, a man may find it pleasurable to turn the Bo vibrating cock ring around so that the vibrating component stimulates his scrotum (testicles or “balls”).

What I like about the Bo:
- The packaging (a sleek black box)
- The battery life (it is rechargeable and one charge allows for quite a few uses)
- The material is easy to clean with soap and water (or sex toy cleaner, whichever you prefer)
- The motor is fairly quiet (low to moderate in volume)
- The level of vibration appears to be pleasurable to both women and men (at least those who have tried it so far)
- The size, placement and feel of the vibrating ring appears to be comfortable, on the whole, for those who sampled the product
- Comfortable during intercourse

What I don’t like:
- At $79, it’s a steep price for some men and women to pay to spice up their sex lives. Granted, it costs less than some of the other couples and women’s toys on the market (such as the We-Vibe and Sasi, both of which are well over $100)
- I feel mixed about the fact that the toy only turns on/off when sliding the motor compartment in or out of the ring. The nice part is that the toy won’t accidentally turn on to drain the battery. The challenge is that you can’t just turn it on and off during sex play with a partner without taking the toy apart.
- In an ideal world, there should perhaps be more available speeds and one with significant intensity – even if just for the sex play part (sometimes very intense vibration is less comfortable or distracting during intercourse for women or men, whereas other times it is desired)

My vote?
4 orgasms out of 5. I definitely think it’s worth a try.

Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll post reviews from the men and women who have tried this innovative couples sex toy – so far, I’ve heard only good feedback about it.
