Original Rabbit Pearl vs. The Pink Tongue

In the midst of the end-of-semester haze that fell upon my campus, it was a lovely surprise to receive not one, but two toys to review this week. The first is the Rabbit Pearl, sent to me by the lovely folks over at Good Vibrations. Yes, this is the same “Rabbit” that was made oh-so-famous by Sex and the City a few years back. The second is the Pink Tongue, sent to me by MyPleasure.com. Since both are what you might call “rabbit” toys, I’ve decided to compare and contrast the two toys in one post!

From top, Pink Tongue, Rabbit Pearl, Rabbit Pearl Controller

The Pink Tongue

Material: TPR (Thermoplastic Rubber), which is hypoallergenic, non-toxic, and phthalate-free, but is still fairly porous. You should use a condom with this toy, as it’s impossible to fully sterilize.

Length: 5.5″ of insertable length, with a fairly slim shaft

Stimulation: Both internal (g-spot or anal) and external (clitoris)

Variety: 3 vibration speeds, 7 rotation speeds, and the ability to switch the direction of shaft rotation

Price: $49.95 from MyPleasure.com

Other pros: Waterproof, takes 3 AAA batteries (some toys require batteries that you aren’t likely to have on-hand)

Other cons: Both the external stimulator and the shaft are shaped like tongues. This kind of creeps me out. Also, the MyPleasure.com website described the Pink Tongue as a good toy for “women who want a unique dual-action that’s waterproof”…not trying to be nit-picky, but I think it’s important to realize that this can be a trigger word for trans* and gender-queer folks looking for toys!

The Rabbit Pearl

Material: Vinyl. This is a highly porous material and therefore should always be used with a condom in order to ensure cleanliness.

Length: 5″ insertable length, but with a thicker shaft.

Stimulation: Both internal (g-spot or anal) and external (clitoris)

Variety: Speed of vibration and rotation controlled by a sliding button on the controller. It may take some time to find the right combination, but you’ll definitely be able to find it!

Price: A hefty $78.00 for the original from Good Vibrations.

Other pros: Rotating pearls on the shaft for stimulation of the vaginal opening/vaginal walls. Ability to change the angle of the shaft for ultimate g-spot stimulation.

Other cons: Takes 3 C-batteries (though in my confusion, I loaded it up with 3 AAA, and though they tend to fall out of place, they do work). Also not fully waterproof- can’t be submerged.

My Final Answer: Between these two pink rabbit-style toys, I have to stay true to my Sex and the City ladies and stick to the original Rabbit Pearl. Though the Pink Tongue offers a lot for its price, there’s really no comparison to the Pearl. If you’re willing to splurge on a toy, this is definitely my number one recommendation, hands down.
