Woman Arrested for Loaded Weapon (and Masturbating)

Twitter was all abuzz with this story the other day, but I couldn’t help but feel absolutely horrible for the woman involved. It’s one of those stories that people pass around as being absolutely hilarious because it involves a woman using sex toys while masturbating, but mostly it’s just genuinely embarrassing for the woman involved and the way people react to it is very sex negative. The story goes like this: Continue Reading →

Birth Control Gel

Hormonal birth control comes in many forms: pills, rings, patches, and shots. And now scientists are researching a possible gel containing hormones that would be absorbed when a woman rubbed it on her skin. So far, the sample size has been small with just 18 women, but the results have been good. However, I’m already feeling a bit skeptical as all the articles I’ve read have pretty much touted this form of birth control to be a wonder drug. There have been no allergic reactions to the gel, none of the women in the study have become pregnant, and there seem to be none of the common side effects associated with other hormonal birth control methods such as weight gain, lower sex drive, and acne. Beyond Marriage

Same-sex marriage. You normally only hear 2 sides to this debate. Either you’re for it because you think everyone should have the right to marry the one they love or you’re against it for religious or bigoted reasons. It wasn’t until I was in college and took a queer history class with a famous gay historian that I learned of another reason people were against same-sex marriage. Everyone in the class had wrongly assumed this great activist gay man who was in the White Night Riots and protested with ACT UP was for same-sex marriage. Continue Reading →

Sex Toys To Avoid: Phthalates

Phthalates are chemicals used to soften plastics and are used in many products such as shower curtains, vinyl flooring, tupperware containers, children’s toys, and sex toys. They’re all around us. The issue with phthalates is that they don’t actually bond to the plastics they are mixed with which causes them to leach into the environment all around us. They get into the food we eat and the air we breathe. Increased levels of phthalates have been shown to be linked to wheezing, allergies, asthma, autism, organ failure, issues with hormone production, and cancer. Continue Reading →

Scarleteen Blog Carnival

AAG and Scarleteen have teamed up to organize a one month long fundraising blog carnival for Scarleteen. For those not in the know, Scarleteen is a fantastic resource for teens and others who have questions about sex. If you’ve ever been to an adult site (often porn, but not always) you’ve more often than not seen a link pointing the underage kids to Scarleteen for their sex information. From their own site: Continue Reading →

How to Have Sex: Instructions For…

“How to Fuck” by Mellissa McEwan may be the best instructions I’ve ever read for having sex. Generic, sure, but that’s part of what’s so amazing about them. This set of instructions leaves pleasure up to whoever is involved and assumes that you want to protect yourselves. There are no assumptions of what normal is and nor do I think the author even cares. Sex is fun and should be had for fun. Continue Reading →

Sex Toys to Avoid: Vaginal Tightening Creams

Vaginal tightening creams, which are also often marketed as “virginity” creams, rely on the fear that if a woman has had “too much” sex (how much is too much exactly?) or has had one or more babies that her vagina gets stretched out and therefore is not as pleasurable for her partner during intercourse. This is basically poppycock, but I’ll get to that in a minute. Continue Reading →

Are Your Breasts in Style?

Jeana’s post A Photo Gallery of Normal Breasts reminded me of this great post on Jezebel that is a little old, but fits right in with our breast theme week here on MSP. Not only are breasts all different shapes, sizes, weights, textures, and colors. The different types of breasts also go in and out of style which is why it may seem that there were more torpedo shaped breasts in the 60s and rounder, more fuller breasts today, but really it’s all about what types of breasts are being shown to us based off the culture of beauty that exists today (and sometimes, what kinds of bras are in style at the time). Sex Positive URL Shortener Seized By Libyan Government

Sounds like a joke doesn’t it? I had to check the date to make sure it wasn’t April 1st when I read that early this morning on Violet Blue’s twitter stream. But it’s true. Vb.ly which was a URL shortening service much like tinyurl.com, bit.ly, is.gd, and more touted itself as “the internet’s first and only sex-positive url shortener.” It was a safe haven for those of us in the adult industry to shorten URL’s for sex education, pornography, or any other adult related materials without fear of removal. Sex Toys To Avoid: Anal Desensitizers

There’s this popular myth that anal sex is painful for the receiver. Don’t get me wrong; it can be very painful … if you’re doing it wrong. Anal sex that is pleasurable for both giver and receiver is something that can take a lot of patience, especially for beginners. Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t know how to go about warming up for anal sex and they take the quick and easy way out by using an anal lubricant or spray with numbing ingredients like Benzocaine or Lidocaine.
